Songs for Laura

A pile of boxes outside my front door greeted me unexpectedly this
morning...the Songs for Laura Volume One compilation and benefit cd
dedicated to my mom that wasn't due to arrive for a few more
days....my mom's way of letting me know she would like to be part of
the celebration this weekend.
She left her body feb 17th..two years later than the doctors said
she had to live. She died at home as she requested. Dressed in her
finest garments and jewelry, holding her lovers hand as she took her
last breath.
My brother and i got to spend a week with her in the hospital and say
goodbye. She couldn't speak but i know she could hear. i brought my
guitar and we sang her favorite songs. i played her the Songs for
Laura cd everyday.

She is a courageous and beautiful and powerful being...and she will
be missed.

There will be a memorial in Santa Fe March 18th for friends and
family. Bring music, stories, pictures, food and drink and we will
celebrate her life.

Songs for Laura will be available at the cd release this weekend and
soon on the website, itunes etc. I am immensely grateful to the
nineteen artists who donated songs to help raise funds for cancer
treatment -sean hayes, alo, brett dennen, shane alexander, matt the
electrician, beth waters, tom freund, danny schmidt, aj roach, anais
mitchell, alex goldfarb, devon sproule, paul curreri, gavin glass,
four year bender, the mammals, elam blackman and libby kirkpatrick.
It's a wonderful compilation that i know you will love and all the
proceeds go to a worthy cause. My gratitude also for everyone's love
and support in the last few years as my mom fought on.

There were so many great musicians wiling to gift their music for
this project that there will be more Volumes to follow. There will be
concerts with the artists involved this year as well... i'll let you
know.

thank you for your care,

forest

All OF LIFE COMES TO ME WITH EASE AND JOY AND GLORY
Friday, January 4th, 2008 2:33 PM

from the storm

Power is out in my hobbit home. Tree branches are strewn across the
road like scattered bones discarded by a sleeping giant. The wind
howls when he snores. I snuck by undetected...
Thanks be for neighbors and wireless so I can send you out a message.
We will have a spontaneous Access Foundation class in Tiburon this
weekend. If you are in the Bay Area and would like to come play give
me a call. Prerequisite is a bars class.
How was your new years? Happy new you. I went to bed early and got
up early for champagne breakfast and an all day hike with some long
time friends. We meandered from mill valley over mount tam to
inspiration point and on to Fairfax, with plenty of scintillating
conversation and accompanying views and victuals. How delightful to
spend the first day of the New Year out doors and moving our bodies.
Isn't it fun to have one? A body I mean.. What a gift.
Have you ever noticed how good your body feels when you are outside
all day moving and playing? How amazing food tastes then? How
delightful your bed feels when the day has been full and active? Is
your mind quieter when you have nourished your body? Have you ever
noticed how your problems disappear and you actually become present
when you allow your self and your body to move and play?
That is my inspiration to create the Access Body and Adventure
classes this year. To get you out of the ruts you get stuck in and
into the joy of being alive. The body processes allow you to have a
greater communion with your body... and travel too. how does it get
any better than that? We are doing these all over the world this
year- skiing/snowboarding in Taos, snorkeling and white water rafting
in Australia, sea kayaking, hiking and biking in New Zealand, surfing
in Costa Rica, Rock Climbing in Joshua Tree, exploring the Yukon
..and what else? What sounds good to you? Check out my website for
details.

Music! Cd release March 1st at the Larkspur Cafe theatre! Two new
records. Mark your calendars. More on that later.

doin' it hobbit style

Hello friend..

Yes 'tis true, this wandering troubadour has a home...a hobbit
cottage 'midst the redwoods of mill valley...nestled at the base of
mt. tam... just down the street from where I recorded "walk through
walls"... a place to return to in between voyages.. just for me...I
am delighted. these trees nourish and nurture my soul... Come visit
if you like...
I am happy to offer private sessions of energy work for your body and
musical mentoring as well...voice, guitar, singing, songwriting,
producing.. ready to give up your judgements of you and start
creating? What would you like to change? what would you like to
create?

A great way to start is the bars class or getting your bars run. The
bars assist in clearing the judgements that keep you limited. And,
yes, by request I am finally doing one in the Bay Area (nov 17), and
in Malibu this Friday (nov 9). This class is a prerequisite for the
foundation/level one class this weekend with Gary Douglas - the
founder of Access. If you'd like to meet the guy who totally changed
my life this is a great opportunity. Gary is phenomenal ... i am
immensly grateful to know him. He doesn't usually teach the entry
level classes...so this is a rare opportunity..plus the class is half
price to repeat if you've done foundation and one with me or any other
faciltator..
check out www.accessconsciousness.com for more info.

Music! The new records are mastered. Now comes the artwork and
manufacturing. I'll keep you posted on the cd release party.
I will be playing in Oxnard (near LA) after Gary's class and Nov.
30th as part of this great event Live.Music.Now. in San Francisco.
See you there?
Just a few spots left for the ski weekend in Taos. Sign up now if you
know you'd like to be there.
Thank you for being the gift that you are. How does it get any better
and what else can we create?
What's happening in your universe? Write me so I know your there..

The redwoods send there love,

Forest

anyone you''d like to invite? anyone you know like to have greater
access to their creative capacity? have a greater communion with
their body? expand their consciousness?

Decemeber. We'll have a concert then three days of skiing in the

All OF LIFE COMES TO ME WITH EASE AND JOY AND GLORY

would you like a private session?
Saturday, September 15th, 2007 10:20 AM

"this train i ride..."

this train i ride..."

Yesterday I was pondering my fondness for trains...their unwavering
sense of direction...the blur of scenery while one dreamily stares
out the window. Today I was cursing them like a New Jersey Mafioso
with Terrets Syndrome and a too tight polyester suit...infuriated
with their obstinate refusal to turn around or change direction.
Funny how when we go against our own knowing we end up in these
tangents of disaster... dead ends like in the labyrinth mazes we used
to draw for hours in elementary school. Funny, too how the train that
so quickly whisked me in the wrong direction this morning left me at
the next stop for the slowest train I have ever been on.. I could
have walked faster... this sloth of metro took 45 minutes to get back
to Back Bay station and they charged me full price to get back to
where I started from and again for a new ticket. It all seems funny
telling you the story now... now that I am comfortably settled with a
foot long sub sandwich and my shoes surreptitiously removed beneath
the seat in front of me...feet grateful to be emancipated. Sometimes
I think I create these momentary diversions just so you will know that
when I say All of life comes to me with ease and joy and glory that I
don't just mean the good stuff...I mean all of life. Know anyone who
has only good stuff happen to them? Ever hear anyone say "it's all
good"? Is that true? In an infinite universe is it all good or does
oneness include everything? I am not asking you to "think positive"
or do affirmations. If you do are you still trapped in polarity?
Positivity and negativity? Push and pull? Alternately buffeted and
pummeled and lifted and dropped by the ocean of reality instead of
surfing the waves of your choice? I am asking you to see what might
occur when you start to ask questions in your life instead of coming
to conclusion. To live as the question. To be the question. To
welcome that curiosity that is where true creation, change and
infinite possibilities come from.
The East Coast has conspired to keep me here a while yet...NYC,
Vermont, Montreal...
Perhaps I'll see you at a show or a class? Would you like to come
see the leaves change in Vermont? Come to my concert and then
explore the old port of Montreal and practice your french?
I'll be doing private sessions during the Access Level 2 and 3 in NYC
next week if you would invite your body to a new possibility of
awareness and presence and assist it to change. Be back in California
oct 10 or so..
There are three songs from my upcoming records on itunes if you can't
wait...check out the links on the music page of my site..
Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007 2:24 PM

can you hear it?

Woke at dawn to the sound of the surf and the birds... Last nights
thunderous rain replaced by clear blue sky. Dreamt of an old
lover...here with me till I opened my eyes...
Body is pleasantly sore from horseback riding and surfing and long
walks to waterfalls..
I leave Costa Rica tomorrow for Santa Fe, NM to celebrate my mom's
birthday and then on to Taos for five days of class in the mountains
(yes you can still come if you have a hankering for high altitude
adventure and changing your life)
Been researching doing an Access Body Class and Surf in a little town
on the pacific coast called Dominical. Met some wonderful people ...
found a great hotel right on the beach.. owned by a crazy Dutchman
and his Tica wife..they are exited to host a class. Looks like it
will be next July after the 7 day intensive.. stay a few more days
and come surfing with me? We can surf all morning and do body
processes all afternoon when the rains come. There's lessons and
surfboards and great restaurants...I'll arrange the
transportation..all you have to do is get yourself to the San Jose
airport. Don't know how to surf? Take a lesson! Or go for a walk on
the beach instead..
Rather ski? Come to the Bavarian lodge in Taos in Dec.. (sign up soon
for this if you know you want to be there..lodging is limited to 15 at
the lodge).
Or come play in Vermont or NYC with me. Just come play. What if your
life was play?
New records still in the works...coming soon..
Be back in the bay area the end of sept. for a bit if you'd like a
bars or body session or musical mentoring
guitar/voice/songwriting/producing lessons... i'll let you know if i
am playing music anywhere..
Thanks for being you. No one else could do it like you do.

hot and bumpin'

The air conditioner in my Honda lost the battle with the desert heat in the Mojave as I drove west on I-40. When I stopped at the little gas station oasis in Fenner, Ca it already seemed to be gasping for breath and surrendering to despair. By the time I arrived in Ojai that night it was sounding it´s death rattle. The local mechanic said all he could do was put it out of its misery. My rear bumper, which you may recall had been torn off by an apologetic but myopic neighbor with a moving truck in Austin, TX and reinstated with a bit of twine so I could put the insurance money towards my last record, decided to abandon ship as well driving up the California coast on 101 near Goleta. Maybe it had some bumper relatives it wished to visit? It snagged it´s big tow when it lept however and instead of freedom got to be dragged along the highway till the next exit when I could pull over and affix it albeit temporarily to the embarrassingly exposed rear of my vehicle. I pulled into the bay area late last night with a soar right calf muscle from working the gas pedal.
I sit in with Brett Dennen tomorrow night at the Fillmore in San Francisco. See you there, with flowers in your hair? Somebody left their heart if you know anyone who is missing one…
More music! I´ll be at the Sweetwater in Mill Valley towards the end of the month in the round with some other great local luminaries. And I am enthralled to get back in the studio this week and keep creating these new records…

More Access! Access to what? To you. These are tools that expand your life and assist you in creating whatever it is you´d like to create with greater ease.
The foundation of Access is something called "the bars" … what are the bars? Energetic points on the head that clear places you are stuck so that you and your life can show up differently. Describing this to you is kind of like... well, someone once said talking about music is like dancing about architecture…hmmm..or maybe it´s more like a eating a cookie.. I could give you the recipe…but you just won´t really know till you taste it for yourself…
I can tell you that for me these tools have changed everything in my life. So if there is something that it is time to change and you know it… clap your hands..just kidding...you can call me for a session or come to the bars class…where you get your bars run and learn to run them for others…someone emailed me recently asking me to ring their bells… I am not sure if that is quite the same as running their bars but it sounds about right… to quote Kilgore Trout " Ting a ling!"

ready for adventure?

almost missed my turn tonight driving in the dark and writing you in
my mind..
sat with my mom an my brother on the front porch at twilight while
horizintal lightning pierced the desert sky..till rain and wind drove
us inside...desert plants glad for the wet..
new mexico is so beautiful in summer..and though mostly lately i have
been running errands, groceries and pharmacies... and fetching fresh
glasses of water and wash cloths and cooking and cleaning..and though
my brother and i have forgone our annual summer backpacking trip to
help our mom move for the fourth time this year.. to a house where
she can stay as long as she chooses..with her own furniture and all
her own things so she can be at ease...as much ease as you can be in
with cancer..we still have managed to slip a way for a couple of
sunset bike rides and a hike on the windsor trail ....and naked jump
in nambe lake..

and a new song has made it's way through.. it brings me to the cusp
of tears every time i play it... and has not failed to illicit full
on bawling from any as yet to hear it.
it has asked to be recorded. i am enthralled to get back to that
creative recording process in san francisco the month of july..
i will also be around the bay area for sessions and lessons and a
bars class .....would you like that..?

plus a show in santa barbara july 8th (see below)..

missed you in Taos! what an amazing class. Hiking to williams lake,
laughing, transforming, running body processes and drinking spaten
lager and eating schnitzel in the evenings ...or venturing into town
for new mexican blue corn red and green chile enchilladas with sour
cream...
yes, yes we are doing it again aug 26-31.
would you like to come?
These mountains are so magical! What an amazing place to invite your
body to a new possibility and change anything in your life you'd like
to change..
you should see it in summer and come again in winter! there will be
a Access body and ski class dec.7-9...ski in the morning..body
processes in the afternoon..how does it get any better than that?
.the bavarian lodge is a few feet from the lift..
lodging is limited to 15 with a special rate for access folks for
both classes so register early..

or would you rather have an urban adventure ? come play in new york
city in september...

thanks and priases be for this lovely planet and all it's
glory..thanks for music and sweet chilled muscat wine and hot baths
and cold showers and Kurt Vonegut novels.. and for you...

what else can we create?

ooh la la

i love creating!
two new records being born..So delighted to be allowing this music to
come through and so grateful for all the talented folks being a part
of it. i love asking the songs what they would like to be and
bringing them to life. they really do have a life of their own.. i
wonder where they will go ...?

What would you like to create that you have not allowed yourself to
create? what would it take for you to give yourself and the world
that gift? what is asking to come through you?

i am in the bay area for a nother week or so and then drive to New
Mexico to be with my mom for the month of june... and for the Access
classes in the Taos mountains. Would you like to come? It's a
conscious party that will change your life..come and play?
check out the Bavarian Lodge ...how's it get any better than that?

Know any body that would like a session here in the Bay Area or on
my drive east to Santa Fe? (santa barbara, maybe LA, flagstaff, Az..?)
Get your bars run, or your body enlivened. I am also offering Access
face lifts that energize and juvenate your body and being so you look
younger and feel younger, too.. would your body like that?

I am also available for guitar lessons, songwriting coaching, vocal
coaching and producing if you like..

thanks for coming to the sweetwater show..that was a blast...
Thursday, April 19th, 2007 10:54 AM

who stole my underwear?

hello delightful creature of abundant playful possibility..

I am back in the bay area for a bit to make a new record!
yes! Many new songs wish to come to life..and i will oblige them. If
you'd like to hear some come out to the Sweetwater May 6th or listen
to to some for the radio performances below,,KALW,KWMR,KFOG..
Would you like to have your bars run or a music lesson while i am in
town? gimme a call..

since last i wrote you..
low point: getting my stuff stolen out of my car in santa
barbara..all my clothes ..(if you see anyone walking around in my
fluffy bathrobe, boxer briefs and sunglasses tackle them first and
ask questions later)..my massage table..(i guess theives need to
relax too-"gosh i'm so stressed out from that midnight heist--would
you rub my shoulders?"), my amp for my guitar and microphones and
cds(guess they are really big fans..they took boxes of Forest Sun
cd's) and shoes ...gone! they even took my pack of chewing gum!
what's right about this that i am not getting? i guess it's a bit
more spacious in my honda now..and i get to buy a whole new
wardrobe..girlfriend! it's time for a whole new look... i'm thinking
sexy and saucey and spicy and demure.. fabulous, darling!

high point:
A hike in the red rocks, vortexes and river beds of Sedona followed
by a home cooked meal in Flagstaff, Az...Rafting down the rio grande
river in Embudo, NM.. and hiking in the Taos mountains. Then driving
the back road back to Santa Fe through Penasco and Truchas..
what a sky! come play with me in new mexico in june?

What would you like to have or change in your life that you haven't
allowed yourself to have or change?

What would you like to create in your life that you haven't allowed
yourself to create?

Would you like to spend five days nurturing you and your body in the
glorious mountains of Taos, New Mexico? Nourished by the earth and sky
and rivers and woods? Running bars and and body processes and
receiving clearings on anything you'd like to change in your life?
Have you ever heard starlight? Wait till you experience the Taos
starry sky and looming mountains at night... that deep deep
silence..

in gratitude,

forest

you see it? where were you while the moon dipped in the shadow?
Since last i wrote you i rode a bicycle through eucalyptus trees
covered in monarch butterflies like red golden fluttering leaves,
then swapped songs in the backporch California sun with Zach Gill
(you can hear him playing piano and singing on my tune
"loveseat"-have you gotten it off itunes yet?). New songs are asking
me to record them. perhaps soon?

skiing and schnitzel

hello fastidious denizen of the universe,

i write you sipping a cowboy chai at the Tea House on canyon rd in
Santa Fe. Just returned from five days of high altitude access in
Taos. skiing for the first time in years in fresh powder and
sunshine. Fed delightful bavarian fare and of course frothy mugs of
beer and accordion music....
So many folks were snowed in under the three feet of snow we had for
the last one that we are having another Benefit Concert for my mom
tommorow night. Come and celebrate life with music and art if you are
near. And if geography seperates us you will still be near to us.
Thanks so much you who braved the snow for the last event and for
sending your love and cards and emails. My mom sends her gratitude
and so do I. I'll also be putting money from cd sales towards her
treatment so if you buy a cd from cdbaby just put "For Laura" in the
comments..you can do this from my newly upgraded website(poetry and
more)...Thanks to my genius brother(if you need a web designer he is
the bomb)..

What if you could be, do, have, generate, and create anything you
choose? What would you change right now?

Where would you like to travel that you haven't allowed yourself to
travel? What part of this amazing planet would you like to see?

What problems and struggle have you created just to keep your self
busy and distracted?

What is your body asking you for that you have been ignoring?

here's sending you green chile and sopapillas from santa fe,

Been hiking the chamisa trail and remembering that my body likes to
move even if the weather is cold or the sky is a gloomy winterous
grey. Been sleeping long and dreaming much.
i am here for a while staying with my mom. She has been fighting
lung cancer. I've been cooking soup and making fresh squeezed juice
and running her bars and running energy on her body. She is
confident she will kick it. i am throwing a benefit concert to help
pay for her treatment. Special guests incude the wonderful Sharon
Gilchrist playing mandolin and Michael Kott playing cello. There
will also be a silent auction including work by artists Juan Kelly,
Lisa Law, Pilar Law, Josh Schrei, and Jennifer Esperanza. Come out
and show your love and support.

If you can't make the show and would like to send my mom a card she

mmmmnn...

woke in sausalito this morning...the fog's so thick it looks like you
could swim in it..

What inspires you to be great?
What makes you laugh and dance around at the possibility?
What makes you glad to be in a body?
What fills you like cosmic breath and leaves you as expanded as
space?

"i've seen your eyes without their clothes

..and i didn't look away.."

writing from a quiet room in an old friends house... on a quilted
bed, walls painted yellow, lap top on my lap... quesadilla and earl
gray in my belly...legs happy for the sunny walk around this north
austin neighborhood i took this morning..
was it just a few short days ago i was white water rafting through
rainforest canyons? or listening to the aged proprietor of a
fabulous Argentinean
restaurant in San Jose tell me stories all in spanish of the
ex-presidente... in the
company of six beautiful women? What an amazing trip. The 7 day
Access intensive was extraordinary. What a gift to be spend each
day
with folks from all over the world interested in creating a
different
reality for themselves and this planet. Working on bodies...letting
that energy come through me...inviting a new possibility of
embodiment and presence...waking at
dawn each morning with the birds and a view of a mist-topped
volcano
...jumping in the river...sipping strong costa rican coffee...then
a
quiet lope on a horse named Copita..who taught me to canter and
gallup, too.. dancing, singing, hugging, laughing, speaking
spanish,
giving thanks, fireflies, lightening and another naked dip in the
midnight river..a few hours delicious sleep and wake refreshed and
ready for more...

A new song for you!
"Queen Anne's Lace" featuring Sean Hayes is now available from

long been one of my favorite artists and performers. He connects to
some otherworldly essence and brings it here when he sings. If you

what else is possible?

greetings rebellious one...

and a big hello to your glorious body (isn't it fun to have one?),

The first time I had my bars run was a genuine awakening for me. I had been super skeptical… even while having them run, having seen so many modalities and read so many books and tried so many things. But i had had such difficulties with my body - my stomach -nothing sat right, pain in my back, neck and jaw, low energy and depression. My body wouldn't let me continue as i was.
Driving home after that first bars session I stopped and went for a walk up in the rolling hills of Marin. I found a spot on top of a hill in the long grass under a tree looking down at the valley below. I could see the San Francisco cityscape in the distance... the fog rolling in… and for the first time in my life there was no thoughts in my head. I sat there and watched the sun go down... and there were still no thoughts. The stars came out and the moon started to rise and there was just this blissful feeling of connection with everything. Total spaciousness and joy and deep, deep gratitude for my life and my body.
When I finally walked back in the soft darkness it was with this clear knowing that this expansive bliss and communion with all is the truth of what I am… and what we all are.
This you know already. Sometimes something that assists that knowing is asked for. Is your body asking you for this?
The bars are just one way to recieve this nurturing and transformation. The Joy of Embodiment class in Australia was amazing. There are so many hands on energetic processes that facilitate greater ease and joy in having a body. It is such a gift for me to allow that energy through me, through my hands- and have it be recieved. to ask your body what it requires and to gift that energy. Bodies talk with me. I hear them asking. Are you waiting till your body screams at you to give it what it asks? Is it bellowing already and you just turn the tv up louder?

Call me if your body would like a session ($200. ) or if you have questions.. 415 320 2618.

Funny to me that the universe asks this of me. I was so sure that music and art were the only way for me. And i still love creating music and art! and i will continue to create, perform, record....how fun would it be to make a film? to write a book?
and i love facilitating consciousness and bodies, too. i love these classes and the people who show up for them. And what else can i create?

what if you didn't have to do just one thing?
What if what you do does not define who you are?
What have you decided your life has to look like that is keeping you from creating more?
what else is possible?
What else can you add to your life that would expand your life and everyones around you?
what could be better than anything you ever thought of? Are you so busy fighting yourself that you forget to create something different?

If it's music you wish:

i am offering private guitar, voice, piano, and songwriting lessons for $75.

whattaya reckon, mate?

g'day from down under,

The first cassette i ever bought for myself as a kid was Men at Work Business As Usual. i listened to it over and over on my little boom box in my room. How fun to finally be here and hear the infectious flute and chorus"ohhh, you come from a land down under." blasting out the speakers of my Aussie friends van as we wound up the windy road to hike Tamborine Mt on the Gold Coast in Queensland. Other new (to me) Aussie songwriters who have been this adventures soundtrack..
Missy Higgins and Mia Dyson. check 'em out if you like some new music in your life.

Wanted to send you a hello and invite you to some events-concerts and Access classes...Consider this your postcard...the lighthouse at byron bay with whales and dolphins jumping in the distance...the opera house and harbor bridge at sunset in sydney..
if you know folks here, invite 'em!
i'll be back next week in time for a Access class and a gig at the Sweetwater. Come?

august meanderings

hello from my grandmothers retirement home in jamaica plain massachusettes. Slept on her floor near musty volumes of james joyce. pushed her in a wheel chair to the top of the hill in the arboretum. she told me again her belief in the importance of hard work. We both took a nap in the shade. Later played bluegrass in a steamy kitchen with old and new friends. i so love the sound of voices and strings and voices together. it was such a gift to facilitate last weekend at omega. i give thanks for the ability to laugh at myself and for your willingness to do so also.

Would you be willing to create a life that is greater then what you currently have?

Recommended Books:
My long time friend from Santa Fe Donna Thomson has put out a book on meditation. She is a wonderful presence and inspiring being. i have so much gratitude for anyone who is facilitating people to be more aware and joyful and present in their own lives.you can order her book at www.youareyourpath.com

Access creators Gary Douglas and Dain Heer have put out several books this year that offer a very different point of view then where most people are functioning from. If you'd like to change your life check out "Sex is not a four letter word but relationship often is" and "Money is not the problem-you are" and "Magic. You are it. Be it":

Does your body go boom?

hello infinitely bright and beautiful being,
hello my Self in costume,
co-creator of all that is,
troublemaker,
questioner...

Saw five rattlesnakes backpacking in the grand canyon of the Toulumne river in yosemite. jumped repeatedly in the overflowing bone aching chill of that once was snow water. Watched for shooting stars with my back on the still warm from the sun stone and my head resting on my pack. Felt the afternoon stretch before me like an endless prairie. no break in that horizon. gratitude for that space, and the wild places, within and without.

Are you coming to the Access foundation class next weekend in mill valley or the following at omega? when do i get the pleasure of your company? would you like a private session to see what this is all about? ..a new way of being in the world...or is it old? do you remember? does it tickle your fancy? tug at your knowing like a child at your sleeve? saying "can we? please?"?

music-
there is new music to get it on to. care to get funky? "Loveseat" featuring the illustrious ALO (animal liberation orchestra- courtesy of jack johnson's Brushfire records) is now available on itunes for your downloading pleasure. there is a link from the music page of my website. these guys really brought this song to life- it's way more than a a salute to your favorite piece of furniture. only 99cents and you can listen as many times as you want.. cheaper than the vibrating bed at a cheap motel.

my song "drops in the ocean" won first place in the Pacific Songwriting Competition Cafe Scene catergory. $1000. show me the $. how does it get any better than that? you can ofcourse download this Award Winning song at itunes or find it on the "walk through walls" cd. who want's one?

no gigs scheduled till august-rumours of a kfog morning show and a show with brett dennen at the independent in august. then australia? who want's to go?

in gratitude,

forest

call/email/telepathic msg if you'd like to:

host a house concert? ($400) - you bring the folks and the listening space-i do the rest. private session? ($200 investment in you). Access Foundation class? ($400) (change your life forever -nevermind -there's probably something else you could spend your weekend and your money on that will let you keep all your limitations and reinforce the box you've squeezed yourself in. or you could just surf myspace for a couple of hours.(http://www.myspace.com/forestsun) clicking on the cute ones, or flip through endless channels of nothing on the tv, buy some stuff you don't need, call your friend and make them listen to you complain about your life somemore, or eat some food your body doesn't want and judge your self for it. the choice is yours of course. i love you either way)

What would you create if time and money weren't the determining factors in your life?? What would it take to create a life greater than you have now? what could be better than anything you have thought of?

feast on nectar like the hummingbirds
And change your mind just as fast
High jump on to your sandy fortress
And let the ocean in to touch your feet
is it not just as fun to knock it down as build it up?
Stay out of doors long past sunset
Kiss like the stars do
where you´ve never kissed before

My song is changing
Time so spacious
my outstretched fingertips never graze the edge
Numbers and letters
cannot confine this knowing

I am an inadequate superhero
A superfluous essential
Unique like everyone else
Seriously funny
Humorously morose
Against contradiction
Much more of a smaller dose
Replete with splendor
And garish banality
Bored with my own surprises
Playing hide and seek and peek a´ boo with god

Since last we spoke i ate blackened aligator and redfish and smoked shrimp bisque and hushpuppies and rice and beans and key lime pie and sweetened ice tea all prepared with utmost care, gratitude and reggae music by a rasta chef at the local sea shack in hilton head, south carolina. i jumped in the ocean and saw dolhpins on both coasts and rode a borrowed, fat tired beach cruiser on moonlight sand and through firefly bedeckled twilight woods.
i heard bob dylan sing (or perhaps growl would be a better description) "she belongs to me" in savannah, ga. Have you heard my version of that song yet? there is a link to download it from my website..

i say goodbye to Fairfax this month and will wander the world some more. What does the universe require of me?

what brings you joy?
what are you creating?
are you allowing for magic in your life?

would you like to create an event near you? would you like to travel and hang out with people interested in consciousness?

If you would like to have your bars run call or email to schedule a session. Call or email me to register for these upcomimg classes. Or if it's music you wish come to Zoey's in Ventura june 18.

thank you for being you,

come out and play?
...spring demands it!
bells clamour from the churches down below every afternoon like god is throwing a party. the biggest, fattest squirrel i've ever seen weighs down the branches of the bay tree outside my window. A pair of big black crows are building a nest somewhere in the back yard. todays sunshine makes by body glad and grateful to walk home while my honda is in the shop. what are you grateful for today?
hawaii was amazing. Snorkeling! Have you done it?
there is a whole universe i never knew was there... i saw a squid, and eels and dogfish and a zillion multi-colored, striped, rainbowed critters of all shapes and sizes that just stared at me unblinking and unperturbed while the tide rolled us in and out. You've got to come next hawaii trip. Let me know that you'd like to and we'll create it...
Wednesday, March 29th, 2006 1:07 PM
this morning i had mint chocolate chip ice cream and strawberries for breakfast and asked the universe questions...
what questions did you ask?

so much gratitude for the awareness and abundance of this body and this curiosity and this freedom ... living in the question..

hawaii was so nurturing- allowing my awareness to expand in all directions over mountains and the ocean.. truly a remarkable place to have Access classes.. and we get to do it again this month.. how did i get so lucky? Would you like to come?

just finished taking a level 2 and 3 class with Gary Douglas... wow! so beyond anything that your mind defines as reality... so deeply profoundly transformational on every level and every aspect of my life.. and the people who show up are awesome!really fun to have kids in the class, too.. infinite beings in little bodies...they get this stuff so easily .. while the adults fight to hold on to their fixed points of view, kicking and screaming to hold on to our limitations, the kids are like hey let's play...i wish someone had invited/allowed me this way of being when i was a kid. What would it be like to have a school that actually empowered and facilitated the greatness and creativeness of our children instead of trying to fit the immensity of their energy and beingness into a little box? it brings tears to my eyes everytime i imagine a different possibility and what it would have been like to have that growing up... and i had a more "alternative" upbringing then most. so much more is possible..

Would you rather be right or free? Are you creating your life as the extraordinary gift that is ? or are you buying the heavyness and bullshit as real? what would you like your world to be like? are you creating it that way? Access has facilitated me and my body like nothing else... would you like greater ease in your body and your life? then don't come to these classes.. you'd hate it.. this consciousness and awareness stuff really sucks...all that laughter and lightness and ...probably not for you...

in music news:
i recorded a version of one of my favorite Dylan tunes "She Belongs to Me" with some friends one rainy january evening near seattle. Big thanks to matt and trevor and john for playing and recording with me...
you can download it now from i tunes.
there's a link from here:

also i finally put up a site at myspace

its kinda fun. will you be my friend? you can sign up and post picturesand all..they say no naked ones though..you can send those to me directly ..

seek out the open spaces
leave calamity behind
she doesn´t like hiking anyway
run straight up hill till legs and lungs start to ache and burn
perch and ponder at the top while your heart thumps
then meander slowly down
black butterfly on yellow sun-beamed Acacias
layers come off and then on again in breezy shadow
the labyrinth makes me dizzy
enough of circles and spirals
I prefer to wait at the edge
and watch the hilltops and horizon
fret not
for this too
is but a glimpse

greetings oh grand co-creator of all that is..

what's happening in your universe?

i leave for hawaii on monday, a few exta days before the Access class begins, to explore the 7 waterfalls of Hana and jump repeatedly in the ocean and wiggle my toes in the sand. ..my first time on those islands! if you missed the boat- no worries.. ive been asked to do another class there in April. let me know if you'd like to come..and i'll make sure there is room...and bring you some sunblock..
more access and music this month. Curious about this yet? i am home in fairfax in between travels if you'd like to come by and get your bars run.

This time is an hour whose second hand is dancing

Thoughts rattle and clamor
Like jawbones in the scullery
The tavern wench lifts her skirt
And the drunkards spill their drink

The first to freedom
Finds he is not alone
All that is smiles and puts a
Finger to its lips

Like a child´s game of sardines
This hide and go seek is a song
A little uncertainty
A cosmic jest

The crows in the valley in the morning
Call for caution
But the swollen creek whispers abandon
And wild philanthropy

Give it all away
mumbling ripples advise
Do not wait for the next thunderstorm
Be the lightning yourself

Spend as long as you wish on the arc of the bridge
For it was made for your feet and your crossing
With legs in water hands built this moment
No need to rush now as the currents pass underneath
This morning is all mornings
This gratitude is all that is

What days we have made!
So full and wide and curious
Eternity touches hands
Laughter cures our separateness

yes.
after almost two years homefree i have unpacked my suitcase and hung up my hopelessly wrinkled clothes in a house here in charming and peaceful fairfax, ca. grateful to see old friends and walk out my door to these hills again. The creeks are full and the waterfalls overflowing. The coho salmon are spawning- You can tell the females from the males by their white tails(and their high heeled shoes). They knock all of the pigment out of their tails digging their nests. More travel awaits me soon but now with this place to return to in between.
Yes! in other news -i'm big in japan. Buffalo Records (japenese home to my friends ALO, who if you haven't heard just got signed to jack johnsons label, as well as such bands as moe and string cheese incident) has just released a sort of best of forest sun cd. it includes tracks from my last three albums and is appropriately called "Dancing Again". check it out.

i look like a cartoon on the cover. Also I just confirmed that i'll be facilitating Access at Omega Institute this summer. How cool is that?. check out the events page for events you are invited to-concerts and Access classes. Call me if you'd like a session. May we see each other soon.

mmmm, the contrast...
watching my breath clouds fog up the frosty windshield driving oh so slowly with my dad through bleak colorless snow dusted midwestern fields ... the soundtrack to this little moment music i brought back from Delhi... . Music that you heard wailing from every roadside stall and brightly painted bus - volume on the little cassette players always turned up all the way till the speakers distort...apparently the prefered way to listen to music in india.
I am returned from trekking in the Himalayas in time for thanksgiving. And there is much to give thanks for. Glad for this life. For music. It's been great to play old folk and mountain tunes here everyday with my dad and my uncle. Grateful for this healthy body. My dad's coughing fits from forty five years of choosing to slowly kill his body with Camel straight's are a stark reminder. Have you ever had someone you care about so much make that kind of choice no matter what it costs them? ...you are probably with family right now and know just what i mean.
There is so much to tell about india..and aready it is gone and this moment replaces it. I will go back. i felt so at home in those mountains. i trekked looking at the same peaks the painter Nicholas Roerich used to paint(one of my favorite painters..check out his work http://www.roerich.org). i sang songs aound the fire with the trek guides in cold starlight and played drums on the water jugs and learned new words in Hindi. I visited Nizamudin-the arab quarter of New Delhi-and the Durga of Hazrat Inayat Khan-who's son started the Sufi community where i lived as a child. I ate Tibetan momos and noodle soup in Mcloedganj on a sunny patio overlooking Dharamsala-where the Dali Lama lives. I sipped strong sweet chai halfway up a mountain and practiclay ran/flew the rest of the way up. Then walked home by moonlight. Stopping to share a sheppards fire for a while. His flock sleeping quietly around us.
I'll be back in the bay area for the month of Dec. I have a few concerts scheduled (below)and will be available for Access sessions. just call or email. Early January has me in Seattle facilitating Access. you are invited. more classes on the east coast coming soon as well. i'll keep ya posted.

namaste,
Where to begin? So much gratitude to be here. Like nowhere else i have traveled. There is a flow here. A weaving of cows, rickshaws, pigs, incense, barefoot children, bicycles, blaring music, mopeds, beggars, holy men and beautiful women like colorful flowers midst the trash and pollution. A warmth and gentleness to the place and the people. I have been treated like a Maharaji everywhere i go. Greeted with flowers and smiles.
I write you now from an internet cafe in Pahar Ganj in Main Bazaar in Delhi. Yes the very same place perhaps you saw on the news just now where a bomb went off- a few blocks from my hotel. When i arrived the young boy who was my rickshaw driver tried to take me to a different hotel then i told him-probably so he's get a commision. had i not insisted he take me to the hotel i asked for i would have been right in the midst of the explosion and craziness. How did i get so lucky?
The group of one hundred or more mostly american tourists i was traveling with left last night. Interesting way to ease into india. Big air conditioned buses. Tour guides with incomprenesible accents. 5 star hotels with swimming pools and saunas and white terry cloth robes. Word got out about my doing energy work and i've been doing a couple of Access sesssions each day and evening in between visits to ancient Mogul forts and the taj mahal and the like. What a glorious mix of work and play. Playing a few songs to start off the workshops with Carolynn Myss and leading sing alongs on the long bus and train rides. We visited Delhi, Jaipur, Agra, Khajaraho and Varnasi. There is to much to tell about each...I'll have to tell you more in person.
here are a few snap shots:
...being the first one in the gates when the Taj Mahal opened.. sneaking off from the group...just me and the monkeys and misty rose colored splendor over the Yamuna river.
...A sunrise boatride on the Ganges in Varnasi. Sadus and monks and women and children all bathing and swimming and drinking in the morning water... the sun a fiery orb breaking over the horizon.
...the erotic sculptures of the temples at Kharjaraho. These are my kind of god's. Sex and music. let's celebrate.
...evening meals outside under the sky with white table cloths and beautiful tabla and sitar acompaniment... A spontaneus jam session with the musicians after most everyone had gone ... East meets west... indian blues...wish i had recorded it!
I spent last night in the inevitable baptism of fever, vomiting and diarreah that marks the travelers formal welcome to india. nice to be in a fancy hotel with room service and Bollywood on tv. So grateful for my bodies ability to heal itself. After a diet of nothing but plain white rice and black tea today i feel much better.
Moved to a guest house..Fun to be in staying in the thick of it now with backpackers from all over the world and the noisy, narrow streets right outside my window.
Dawali, the festival of lights, is in a couple of days. The himalayas are calling me.
Such adventure. I'll write again soon.
write me if you like.

hello bright being,
.. rode a too small for me mountain bike through Connecticut breeze and newly fallen
leaves today. had chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast. Caught frogs by the
goldfish pond with a 12 year old. How great to have young ones show up for these
classes!
Traveled here without my guitar since i'm here to facilitate Access with no music
gigs scheduled. Kind of fun to fly without the tell tale case in my hand and let
that identity go, ...and i've kinda missed having it's willing company and seranade,
too. Enjoyed the train ride uphere after one noisy night in nyc...reminded me of
traveling in europe..feet up on the seat in front of me eating a sandwhich, watching
the grafitti, the scenery... arriving in an unknown station. Many more of those to
come when i travel to India in a couple of weeks.
Thank you for your emails. i like to hear from you.

hello from the rolling green misty hills of ashville , NC. The sun's out today after
a few days of dark clouds and warm rain, it's bright rays bringing the old time
musicians and their banjos and fiddles out again.. There are pearcings and tattoos
on every coffeeshop employee. Quite a different vibe from the undulating brick
sidewalks and studious atmosphere of Cambridge, MA i arrived here from. August has
been full and delightful as August always is, and leaves now with just a kiss on the
cheek and a little wave. There is a woman here in North Carolina who makes me smile.
i am grateful for that. More than i can say.
My friend Elam Blackman has released a cd. Elam is one of my favorite songwriters.
We've been playing each other new tunes over the phone for the last year and a half
and i am so glad to have these songs recorded somewhere besides my voicemail. his
website is http://www.elamblackman.com.
Also my dad released his first cd and i am honored to say he covers two of my songs
on there(morning bird and dancing again) as well as his own originals. You can send
him $15 if you'd like to buy one and he'll send you one : David Schumacher PO

big apple hey
hi from 14th st between 7th and 8th ave.
Last night i walked around the village after a light warm rain. People were singing together in Washington Square Park. Songs everyone knows. For the joy of it. For the love of it. I stayed and sang with the theatre students and homeless folks and people out walking their dogs. there were babies sleeping in their carriages. Lovers strolling and holding hands. Mustached old men smoking cigars and singing in deep rumbling thickly accented voices. Everyone is so beautiful here. So beautifully themselves. i am grateful i left some extra days just to wander and wonder...
and eat a good hot salty slice of ny pizza pie. i fly back to california and will be offering Access classes in Mill Valley before i come back east again to play at kripalu, open for the beach boys(yes again-this time in conneticut), teach at Omega, and then head to Boston see my grandma and play some shows.
I am wondering where in the Bay Area i will stay in sept and early oct before i go to India? Any suggestions? Do you or someone you know need a housesitter then?
Thank you for buying my cd and letting me know you like the music. thank you for being curious enough to call me for a session or come to an Access class. Thank you for your willingness to create. To shine. To shimmy and cavort and hum like a beacon that guides you to yourself.

fiddledey do
hello from fillmore street,
the other night there were blossoming fireworks for no apparent reason above the bay and behind the ozlike cityscape out the large windows of the flat where i've been staying. Were they just for me? No one else seems to have seen them. John Prine was singing to me from my laptop..."That's the way that the world goes round... your up one day and then your down..it's a half an inch of water and you think your going to drown" as i stood barefoot with the lights off looking out at the illuminated night sky.
Everyday a new adventure. i have so much gratitude for that.
So much fun to see the brighter eyes and wider smile after you dare to show up at these Access classes or are curious enough to call me for a session. Here's to you showing up as you. I'm glad you are.
Playing at Harbin Hot Springs next week. Then Access classes in mill valley till i fly to NYC (yes!). Do you know anyone in NY or Boston who would like to come to my shows there or maybe host a house concert, an Access night or have a private session of energy work?
I have been living homefree for over a year and a half. A year and a half!! Choosing to create my life doing what i love. Inviting others to do the same. Would you like to encourage me to keep creating music? To continue this adventure? If you and everyone who reads these emails bought my new cd right now that would be more money in my pocket than i made all last year! Your $15 dollars can keep a homeless musician in champagne and goat cheese for an entire evening! Aren't you curious to hear this new record? I made it for you. Wouldn't you like to buy my cd right now? You can do that from my website and have it shipped to you in 24 hours by dancing munchkins throwing confetti waiting to send it joyfully to your waiting arms and ears. I'd much rather you have it than have it sit forlorn in my san rafael storage unit or a lonely warehouse somewhere while i am traveling. you can even download it from itunes into your schmancy new ipod and look like a cool shadowy sillouette - grooving and hip to the latest underground music.
i wrote a new tune on the beautiful baby grand piano here(another thing that doesn't fit in my suitcase-so i'm grateful for it when it is here). i'll it play for you next time i see you.
Thank you for reading these ramblings of a madman on the creative cusp of consciousness.... the mad cusp of creative rambling... Thanks for rambling back every once and a while. i like to know what's happening with you on your holodeck.

yeah oh yeah
hi from sausalito.
housesitting here for another week. the wild fennel where i walk each day has grown taller than i am. there is a plum tree, branches heavy with fruit. a white butterfly . A couple of monarch's chasing each other and dancing in the sun. it helps me to remember that this stillness is always here. Wherever i may be there is a redwood grove standing somewhere in vibrant silence. There is a brilliant vast ocean. There is somewhere a starry sky...usually right over my head if i remember to look.
Opening for the Beach Boys was fun. Can you imagine playing the same songs for forty years? They do it with a smile and make fun of themselves all the while.
Thank you for coming to the cd release party and making it such a great night. So much fun to play with such talented players is such a cool setting for such lovely people!
i am continuing to wear these two hats of the music and the Access energy transformation. Both bring me joy. both are about raising consciousness and inviting people to be more present, alive and joyful. i've got no concerts coming up till july.
I am offering Access Classes and private sessions of hands on body work and energy work ... including:
Energetic Face Lifts- look younger, feel younger!
Bars session-points on your head that release lifetimes of judgments and limmitations. truly life changing.
Cellular Memory- dynamic hands on process that clears blocked or stuck energy, aches and pains, etc

Growing up at the Omega Institute and living places like Santa Cruz, Santa Fe, and Marin County I have seen just about every modality of healing work and variety of spiritual paths and teachings. This work for me has been the most fun and the most effective and truly transformitive. it's wierd, wild and wacky and it works. Curious? Feel free to email me or give me a call.415 320 2618
private sessions by appointment $150

in other news:
I'll be going to India in October! I've been asked to play music as part a two week tour of India with Carolyn Myss. how cool is that?

Thank you for being the radiant, luminous, infinite being you truly are..

ciao,

hello from after midnight in San Francisco,
I walked all day with old friends. We circumambulated Mt. Tamalpais through shaded
redwood groves, by sun dappled trickling streams, over gold hued hills, under clear
bright sky. Walked in silence and birdsong and fragrant breeze. Smiled alot.
Stopped for rest and to enjoy the view. A sip of cool water.

Walked 'til the sun had slipped behind the hills and we came full circle in the
twilight, fatigued and energized and blistered and grateful all at once.

this months news: I've been brushing my teeth with my left hand for a change. oh and
the Cd Release Party! Get your tix now. if you can't come to the party the cd is
available from the website now, too- and ships in 24 hours.
I'm opening for the Beach Boys -(yes really)! and i'll be on the radio-KFOG morning
show! and KWMR and KALW next week.
Plus i am facilitating lots of Access classes this month!

grateful for a life so full and varied and free,

hello and salutations from sausalito, Ca.

Since returning from my latest musical wanderings in time to officiate a friends wedding, I walk each day behind my mothers apartment on the hilltops between the highway and the Bay below. Wild Fennel grows there. And there is a lemon tree I like to visit.

I've been writing songs. I love the way they come through. I'm ready to make another record even though you haven't even heard the latest one. Yes, yes, you will soon. i traded my electric guitar amp to the graphic designer and cd's are being manufactured this very moment by elves somewhere in the wilds of Virginia. The CD Release Party is June 11!

Since last we spoke:
I got food poisoning from the Cherokee Truck Stop in Oklahoma. i haven't thrown up like that since participating in a ceremony involving a certain psychotropic tea used as a sacrament in a Brazilian religion years ago.

The insurance money i recieved from the hail damage in Texas was for exactly the amount of the cost for cd manufacturing. i thank my trusty Honda for sacrificing it's formerly smooth complexion to further support this artistic adventure.

i've been finding that if i allow it there is an energy that comes through that has my whole body tingling like i just jumped back in a hot tub after the cold plunge after hiking all day, or having really great sex, or eating a delicious meal and laughing till you cry with good friends. Except i haven't done any of those things and am just sitting on the couch., grinning like a fool as an hour or two slips by unnoticed.

I am heading east after the cd release party in June. Through Utah, Colorado, Tennesse, Ohio, North Carolina, all the way to NY and further east coast adventures.
If you know anyone along the way who would like to a host a house concert, or is interested in Access classes or private sessions please do let me know.

"wholly to be a fool...
while spring is in the world
my blood approves
and kisses are a far better fate than wisdom"
-e.e.cummings

yes,

hello dear one,
Spring has sprung. I spring tommorow from Texas to Tulsa. My first shows in the great state of Oklahoma.

Highlights this last month :
Playing a show in a yoga center set like a diamond midst the oil derricks of Kilgore,Texas. The entire place was bedecked with a hundred red umbrellas (in honor of my song of that name.)! Dancing swing in the wee hours of the morning on a crooked sidewalk while the drunken, tatooed street band played during South by South West in Austin, A show in Santa Fe at the Railyard where my high school band played our first shows as teenagers all those years ago. Full circle.

lower points:
Getting rear-ended in Santa Monica. Funny how a SUV can just demolish a Honda and not even dent it's own bumper. Then while my car is in the bodyshop parking lot getting fixed in Austin and I'm in East Texas with a rental(dig that cruise control-how have i done 30,000 miles without it my right foot wants to know?), there is a hail storm with hail the size of marbles that leaves my car dented all over. Thousands of dollars of damage they say. Let's call them dimples. They add character don't you think?
Friday, March 4th, 2005 5:38 PM
marching on

Yes i am.
Back to the road. I'm heading south and then east again down to Texas. Goodbye to this hobbit cabin by the creek and the redwoods that have been my home this last month. Not only has this been the longest i have been in one place in the last year, I realized it's the first time I've truly lived alone- and i love it. I mean i've been traveling alone but this is the first time i've stayed longer than a week somewhere with no roomates or family or girlfriend or even neighbors that close- except the occasional squirrel scammpering across the roof or sullen crow perched on the arc of the bridge i see out the kitchen window. i can play the banjo at 3 in the morning if i want to. Dance floppy and naked in the living room. Walk sing write cook. Make funny noises. Sleep sound and still. Listen to my own rythym. If you have never had that opportunity to see what that is like for yourself I highly recommend it.
Hooray! The recording, mixing and mastering of the new record is done! Big thanks to everyone who made the birth of this new record possible. Especially engineer and producer Michael Winger who's talent and tireless energy and long days and hours helped create the miraculous. There's so many people i'd like to thank for their magic (Gosh i feel like i'm at the grammy's). it will have to wait for the liner notes of the new cd. You know who you are. Know that i am grateful.
Thank you also for your kind words of encouragement, pre-ordering the cd and generous donations towards getting this music out there. i am still gratefully accepting donations of any amount. This is truly grass roots community sponsored music.
Now that the music is done the artwork and manufacturing and the website changes happen.
Maybe a cd release party back in the Bay Area late April or early May?

Then i head to Tulsa, Oklahoma in April. I'm thinking perhaps Colorado after that though i haven't booked any shows there yet.
As always if you know anyone anywhere that would like to host a house concert or put on an event let me know.
i will be on the east coast in August. Confimred dates are on the tour page.

I am also available for privtae sessions of Access energy transformation work, bodywork, Clarity nights or to facilitate Access Classes. More info about Access at http://www.accessraz.com.
Contact me if you are interested.

february told me so

greetings and
hello from the little hobbit cottage midst the redwoods by a bridge and a creek where I spent all last week recording a new record! There were drums in the bedroom and upright bass in the bathroom and fiddles and mandolins and banjos and accordeons everywhere, and the sound of raindrops on the skylights. I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to record in this way, in this setting, with such great people and talented musicians(for a who's who see below). I am delighted to share the result with you! Many thanks to Monty and Annie for the gift of the use of their tree house here in the ewok village.

I am mixing this week and then mastering (that makes it sound good and professional), and though all the musicians have practically donated their time and talent (I traded my cd's and records and my piano, congas and mandolin-whatever i had that they wanted) i am wondering how to get the funds to pay for mastering and artwork and manufacturing, etc. so that i may bring this new record to life? I am accepting donations of any amount towards this possibility with utmost gratitude. You may also pre- order the new cd for $20 (personally autographed of course if you so desire) and be among the first to recieve it. Send checks, how many cd's you'd like, and what address to send them to, to:

notes from the road jan 05

oh lithe and supple January...

Hello from the fold out futon in the living room of my brothers apartment in Emeryville, Ca.
Returned yesterday from a lovely show and restful stay at Harbin Hot Springs. Slept in a four poster bed with lace curtains. Woke to views of a dusting of snow on nearby St. Helena mountain. Let my body soak and soften into the steaming water of the springs and into the moment.
Oh great and unknown future ..What glorious adventures do you have in store for me?
A new record is asking to be born. I have many new songs. more than one records worth. I have musicians rehearsed and ready, an engineer with gear to bring wherever, the miraculous weekend when all are free (Jan 21-24). All that is missing is the place, space to do it. How cool would it be to have a big old house for four days where we could set up and do nothing but record ? If you know of this place please let me know. Also seeking housesitting for Feb.
I do love to sing and play and write songs and record them and share them and tour. Not so dear to me is the bizness that creates opportunities to do that. I am ready for some help! A label and the team that brings- booking agent, publicist, radio promoter etc. What are the possibilities?! Suggestions?

So you may or may not know that as well as doing music I am a facilitator of energy transformation work called Access. I've sort of kept the two worlds seperate thus far-the music and the energy work. Which is silly because they are really about the same thing for me-awareness,consciousness, presence. So now is the time to take the risk and share with you.
The mantra of Access is ALL OF LIFE COMES TO ME WITH EASE AND JOY AND GLORY. Are you interested in having more ease, joy and glory in your life?
I will be offering a free Intro night to tell you more Friday jan 28 at Lifeworks Learning Center (550-C Miller Avenue Miller in Mill Valley) and a Foundation class that weekend. I am also available for private sessions. Feel free to call or email me with questions.

much gratitude for reading this and hearing what i'm up to. I'd love to hear from you.

Notes From the Road -December 04
Hello from joshua tree,
Drove 12 hours from santa fe through the cold starlit desert. Kept my hat on and slept in my clothes under piles of blankets and the scruff on my chin. Winter has finally caught up with me. Back in Califronia this month. A complete circumnavigation of the country. Like Magellan in a Honda. Like the seasons. All things return. Will i continue this crazy homefree vagabond tour/life? Winter and 10 months on the road have me ready to be still and warm. Do you or anyone you know need a housesitter in Jan or Feb ? New songs are asking to be recorded. What will the new year bring? A new record? Another circle? i've met so many wonderful folks along the way. If you would like me to come back to your town tell me so. i would love to hear from you.

Many thanks and much gratitude to you for listening and singing along.

Notes From the Road -November 04

Hi from the lizards, giant blue butterflies and thunder storms of costa rica. Hi from the smell of petrol and weaving taxis and loud tourists in San Jose.
I love the way my being expands in the rainforest-my face not near big enough to contain my smile. I've been dreaming of the ocean every night since I jumped into it naked on Cumberland Island, GA and again in Florida and Jaco here in Costa Rica. The surge and swell and sound of the waves. The vastness of all that power in the darkness. Like the infinite beings we truly are. Been dreaming of surfing, too. Didn't get a chance this trip. Perhaps when i've crossed the usa again to the Pacific.
I'm writing to you from the University of Peace in Ciudad Colon where I am playing a house concert tonight for the international students here. Today i rode a borrowed bicicle through the light rain and narrow streets, past a cemetary and all the students in their school uniforms walking home for lunch. Yesterday i ate a coffee berry right off the bush for the first time. Much gratitude for all of this. For being.

Notes From the Road -October 04

Hi from Winston Salem, NC,
I drove 'till late last night through the mist covered mountains of the Virginias, the almost full moon like a giant pumpkin oarnge and bright on the horizon. Sometimes I feel more truck driver than musician. We travel the same roads. Both weary of gas stations and convienence store restrooms. The endless washing of windshields and filling of tanks and hour after hour of highway.
Autumn is chasing me south. Crisp clear days and the leaves just turning. So grateful for that. For the opportunity to share these songs. And for the kindness and hospitality I am shown everywhere I go.

Notes From the Road -September 04
Hello from Bloomfield, New Jersey!

I fly to LA tommorow for a few days before flying back and continuing my east coast tour down south.

News from the road:
Low points: Mosquitos. Thick grey humid days. Driving from Conneticut to play for three people in Woodstock, NY and then driving four hours after the show to the Alternative Energy Festival in Randolf, VT (What was my booking agent thinking? I'd fire the guy except -oh yeah-he is me) to arrive at the festival at three in the morning in the pouring rain. I was directed to a mud puddle where I was to set up my tent. After I got help pushing my Honda unstuck from the mud for the second time I decided there was no way I was camping and drove off in search of a motel room to grab a couple of hours sleep before I had to be at soundcheck at 10:15 that morning. Two hours later, having driven all over Vermont and found nothing but no vacancy signs, I returned to the festival and for the first time in 6 months of homefree touring (or being"free range" as one audience member said to me after a show. I think I like home free better. Somehow free range makes me sound like a piece of chicken or something), and did what I had as of yet never had to do- I slept in the front seat of my car by the side of the road. Not particularly comfy but I was tired enough I didn't care and with a towel over the emergency break it wasn't so bad. It was still pouring when I got up a few hours later to trudge a half mile through the mud carrying my gear to play on the nice big stage to an empty field of mudpuddles. I left that same day to go visit family there in Vermont. I had my trusty mapquest directions that sent me straight up a mountain on a one lane dirt road that quickly turned into a rocky riverbed. With no way to go but forward or back all the way down the way I had came, I somehow coaxed and cajoled my Honda to the top of the mountain where I could turn around. I had gone two miles and had only 1.7 to go. I walked on ahead to check out the road and quickly realized there was no way even a four wheel drive monster truck could get over the valleys and rifts and ruts ahead. As I walked back to the car I heard gunshots echoing off the hills around me and saw shotgun shells on the ground. There was a truckful of hound dogs and a couple of grinning, near toothless bear hunters staring at my Honda wondering who the hell had helicoptered it in. They told me there was no way out but the way I came up. I followed them down and tore off my muffler on the way. They helped me tie it up with the coat hanger that had taken the place of my stolen radio antena. My Honda roared like a Harley all the way down and around the mountain to my destination. Sometimes the shortest distance between two points is not a straight line.

You know the low points make such good stories that they are really just as much fun as the high points.

Highpoints-Tree frogs and wild turkeys in Conneticut. Ice cream-Cristines in Cambridge, JP Licks in Jamaica Plain(with Jimmies of course-that's chocolate sprinkles to you non Boston folks), some place in Conneticut where they make their own from milk from the cows across the street. The Tastee Freeze in Ohio. Playing on the radio. Teaching a class for teens with my brother at Omega. Twilight walks.

Notes From the Road -August 04

Hello from the public library in Yellow Springs Ohio.
I drive today to Ithaca NY.
What an amazing month it has been! Eleven states. countless shows and hours driving and beautiful people like you everywhere I go.

Low points-pulling into a dingy motel room in Bizmark North Dakota at four in the morning-channel surfing infomercials in an effort to get my overtired mind and body to stop moving at 80 miles an hour along the dotted line and get to sleep-then woken up by housecleaning way to early to start another long day of driving with a lousy breakfast at a Denny's look alike. Getting my radio antenna broken off during a gig in Oakland. A convience store prepackaged sandwich. Getting paid $3 for a gig in Chicago.

High points- Leisurely breakfast with my laptop and cappucino. Work? Play? No difference between the two now.
Eating ice cream and kissing on a swing set near the waters of Lake Washington- Mt. Ranier in the distance, everything blooming in Seattle. Writing new songs. Yes. Playing outside on a handbuilt stage in Halfway, Oregon with a view of Cornucopia mountain that I had climbed earlier that day. Sun going down. Horses in the pasture. Walking over the round stones of a dry empty Santa Barbara river bed and discovering ten huge catfish, noses half buried in the mud, waiting for the rainy season, tales waving in a small brown puddle that was all that was left of the river.
Having bras thrown at me as women took off their shirts to dance topless while I played at a house concert in Seattle. Great friends and musicians sitting in and singing harmonies. Laughing alot.

Notes from the Road -July 04

Greetings from the road,
Highlights of the last month- Swapping songs till the sun comes up night after night with the great folks at Kerrville, eating ice cream and jumping in the Medina river during the day to keep cool. Thunderstorm on the way to Houston with rain so thick you could not see two feet in front of you. Stopping by the side of the road to take a pee near Prescott, Arizona late night in total blackness and whooshing silence under more stars then I have ever seen at once, with no seperation from where I leave off and all that sky begins. A walk on the pier and a nap on the beach in the warm fog of San Diego. Biking along sunny Venice Beach on an old cruiser. Audio books on my ipod to help pass the miles. Not so highlight- a speeding ticket from a frightened officer (do i look that dangerous?) in Clint, Texas to the tune of $269 for doing 82mph along the endless straight flat highway of interminable West Texas.
And of course playing these songs every night and you singing along makes me grin till my cheeks hurt and fills my heart with gratitude for the gift this life is.

Notes from the Road --June 04
Greetings from Austin, Texas,
On my way to the Kerrville Folk Festival today after I pick up my friend Elam at the airport, back from his adventures in Mexico.
Glad to be on the road. Glad for the breakfast tacos at Maria's here in Austin. Glad for the fireflies I saw last night sitting in a Gazebo by the river. Glad for a swim in Barton Springs.

Notes From the Road- May 04

Well I bought myself a tent and a sleeping bag- now stowed in the back of my Honda. I am a true nomad now. A vagobond. A troubadour. Ready for the road, just six strings and the dotted white line for company...But I'm still here ...'till May 22 When I head down to the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas. Lot's of house concerts this month. I love it. They are for the most part semi private events but there may be room for a few more if you really want to come. Still room in my schedule for more house concerts this month if anyone want's to host one before I go.

What an interesting challenge it is being my own booking agent. It's pretty much like appliying for a job over and over again. I research what jobs are available, send out my resume, follow up, interview. Repeat. And if I get the Job-that's one day of work- one gig! Do it all again for the next day in the next town.

Nevertheless I've managed to book myself (thanks in great part to people hosting house concerts!) pretty well through August which leaves me on the East coast. Check out the tour page of my site for the confirmed schedule . I am thinking I'd like to finish the great big circle around the country by heading south and then west again. Please email me any suggestions you have of cool places to play or friends who might want to hold a house concert anywhere in this big old country-I'll get to their neck of the woods sooner or later. If half of the folks on my email list hosted a concert or knew someone who wanted to I'd be playing every night for the next year and a half straight!

So if you read this email it's because you already like my music and you certainly don't need a magazine or a radio station to tell you you should. Nevertheless I feel compelled to share with you that Performing Songwriter has said I am ..ahem..." a writer and performer of startling and diverse vision" in their review of my cd this month. Plus Aol internet radio has been playing my tunes and KFOG has chosen to feature me on their Local Scene page of their website. You can read more about that at my site if you care about such things. "Startling and diverse."...watch out!
Thank you for your love and support!

Notes from the Road - April o4

Hello and happy spring,
I've been writing new tunes and jumping on a trampoline. Watching blossoms fall and float on the breeze.

KFOG's Acoustic Sunrise has named For The Story one of it's favorite cd's of 2003!
check it out http://www.KFOG.com/AcousticSunrise
"Instantly accessible, "Tumbleweed" gets curiosity calls every time I play it. Most folks are a little surprised it's by a local artist; it sounds so professionally mixed and recorded. I wish the major label releases I'm constantly bombarded with would sound this good. "For the Story" is easily one of my favorite releases - indy OR major-label - of 2003."
- Rosalie Howarth, Host and Programmer of KFOG's Acoustic Sunrise
